Honest Critiques

OMG! My first instinct was, "The Color Purple as a musical opening on Christmas Day... Absolutely Not!" After the hype of the press tour, I decided to see it on Christmas Day. It shockingly fell extremely flat except for a few scenes. I loved the All Star Cast, but major singer's voices were not even showcased. Some actors were going in and out of greatness, to audience laughter, at times when nothing was funny. The set seemed low budget except for a visually beautiful cinematic moment, when Fantasia and Taraji were listening to a phonograph. Also, some of the dialogue did not flow well. I would advise others to still go and support the film financially, because the majority of people, love the film. As for all of the Oscar buzz, I understand why lead and supporting actresses, have some acknowledgement. My thought is, Best Supporting Actress will win.

Rocketman, Gave me even more respect for Elton. I loved the opening scene. For those moments when we feel we are alone in life's hardships, this movie not only reminds us that we're not, it reminds us that we too can prevail through all obstacles. The music was great. The acting was very good. I rarely see movies twice. This one is worth seeing more than once.
