I haven't seen the anime/The Maxim yet, but this series is a good watch, and with 6 episodes, not only do you get a short series to binge through but also a well paced, action packed show. No scene felt unnecessary. The VFX is very good, the plot too. The 2 main leads were sympathetic and somewhat relatable, plus the show is quite gory. Won't spoil anything but the series is probably a good nod to the anime, especially the ending. As the episodes go by you'll get to see the relationship between the main characters grow, and it feels organic. Definitely worth watching if you're a fan of sci-fi horror, or just want something to watch (with your friends).

(Non-spoiler review) Just finished binged watching this and wow, gotta state, none of it's 12 episodes long, 1 hour per episode felt draggy or a chore. There was enough drama to go around, and wow, the chemistry between the 2 leads was amazing. Lead actress played someone really relatable and likeable, I feel. The lead actor got his chops in good, too. Also, the acting throughout was really good. I particularly like the character of Oh Ju-Hyung, he was entertaining and the actor that portrayed him did a really banged up job, shout out to him. Guy did a "love to hate" character so well. I really hope the actor will get to shine in another series where he plays the same character. Music was on fire too, and again, I cannot stress how good the cast did their jobs. Practically everyone had their own moments to shine and get fleshed out and with the 12 episode - 1 hour per episode thing, you get ample time to see the story unfold. Plus, their own machinations were quite a treat to watch, particularly from the variety of villains in this series. Props to 'Happiness' for taking a unique spin on the 'Zombie' subgenre (they're not really "zombies", per se), and also, this series did one of the best uses of a setting I've ever seen in a television show. The way they used an apartment building as the stage for where the main meat of the series was filmed was simply phenomenal. Overall it was a nice package of action, drama, thrills, and suspense. Definitely go give this a shot. It's a nice meal to sink your teeth into :) The ending was, I would say, typical, but not that that's a bad thing. I did hope that it would be different somehow. I also really hope that there's gonna be a season 2. Maybe that'll be when the actor Lee Kyu-hyung will have more time to shine.

It's such a blessing that this series is 12 episodes long. I almost binged it and it left me wanting for more. (Spoiler free review) Man this series was casted really nicely and there's almost every single stereotypical student/adult archetype you can think of. Each actor/actress played their role so well and it was really well acted. There's a ton of action, even more gore, with enough humor to separate it from other zombie series, with the added bonus of undertones that permeates through to the real world like how unforgiving the world can be, how we treat one another in times of crisis, what we can choose to do when every moment there's the possibility of death, and so on. No episode felt like filler, and with 12 episodes there's a lot of time to flesh out characters and the plot nicely. My favourite characters are Dae-su, Su-hyeok, Mijin and Jae-Ik. Dae-su and Mijin are priceless. Certain characters have such relatable personalities. Don't think anyone was 'annoying' at all. Music is okay-good but the sound effects are *chef's kiss*. Take a shot for every character you think will make it but did not, in the end. It doesn't "reinvent the wheel" or anything like that but it damn sure was more than entertaining and while the ending didn't close off with a bang, it definitely laid the foundations for a 2nd season and I'm all for it. Not gonna lie this series should be rated higher, I feel. There's a lot of eye candy actors and actresses too so there's that. Watch it, NOW. It's a nice stress reliever and you gotta hand it to the Koreans; they know how to do the zombie subgenre. It's a nice ride, you just gotta get on and enjoy it. Netflix spared no expense and it showed. The practical effects were superb. Absolutely love this series, definitely one of the best ones I've ever watched. It's fun-tastic. Netflix, second season ASAP, please :)

I binged watched this series from start to end, and it's extremely, extremely rare for me to do so. The recent last times I did so was probably when I watched both of the seasons of "Kingdom". It really is that good. No spoilers review: This series was really very well written, acted and directed with a surprising amount of sympathetic characters, well placed twists, intriguing plots, unflinching gore, and a really nice soundtrack. This series is basically what would happen if "Hostel" and "Alice in Borderland" had a child but "Battle Royale" being 'God' and choosing the child's gender (I may have missed out on some series but that's roughly what I would describe it as). Take the concept and the tragedies of "Battle Royale", mix in the creativity, amazing set pieces, nice soundtracks, twists and style of "Alice in Borderland" and the gore and structure of what drove "Hostel", and you get this masterpiece. The acting is so well done to complement the show that I give major props to the actors. Take a bow, guys. Y'all did fantastic. The characters that were given backstories; you can't help but feel strongly for them - for them to succeed. But unfortunately.... I really didn't know who to support the most, as they were all so compelling and easy to root for. In the end, I guess I had my answer (The character didn't make it). This series explores the very real and human reasons how someone might end up needing a lot of money, why they do what they do, and what they are willing to do to get it. You'll get to see characters unravel as the series progresses. The protagonist tries to keep his conscience, sanity and morality throughout, but of course, given the nature of this 'game', he's forced to make certain decisions. But he never gave up on trying to save as many people as he could. He went in to the 'game' all wide eyed and smiles, and as the series went on, he became more and more hurt and torn that it is quite frankly captivating to watch. Edit: I haven't had this much thrill in quite some time. What a ride. You'll probably get the sense that anything can happen; that you do not know what's going to go down, throughout the series. I thought of "Will any single person really win and get the prize, or will something like what happened in "Battle Royale" happen?" The ending was maybe typical and it raises a lot of questions, but no complains from me. That wasn't a slight on the ending, by the way. I told myself by the time I was watching episode 4 that I was definitely going to do a review. I really cannot heap enough praise for "Squid Game". Watch it A.S.A.P.

Surprisingly good. Characters are very easy to root for, and feel sad for. Strong male and female leads, with good nuance. Music is A+. Acting is good, especially by the 2 white male and female leads. Give this a shot as it's a good way to pass time and it does hit somewhat close to home; what with the real world situation and all. I kinda wish it's gonna get a new season but it won't, sadly. Enjoy.
