Probably the greatest anime ever made. The story's main themes so heavily correspond with real-world societal issues. The characters are extremely well-developed; many undergo drastic changes, but they are written so well that you see the natural progression and understand them. The suspense it creates involving the plot is truly brilliant; it teases certain things but never too much that you spoil yourself. The exchanging of important values between characters is magnificent and the ending is unbelievably wholesome. Arguably the best thing about this anime is that it can so quickly take you from not understanding and despising a character to sympathising for them. There is poetry in the various character losses and you WILL cry, even if they are a villain. This is the greatest anime ever.
