Totally passable movie. Wonder what the appreciation is all about....The story is nothing special, direction is totally pedestrian and acting very ordinary. The only one who comes across as good, with his menacing comedy is the villain, Sethupathi. Its a masala movie and one doesn't go looking for any logic. But it has loads of totally implausible situations...
I am also surprised at what's happening with the promotion of the movie - I see almost no critical review by critics, the same people who tear apart good and popular movies. The PVR had just about 20 people in the hall while the online booking in the afternoon had shown only about 15 or so available seats!!
There are several forgettable songs and well known female actors with little role.
There is talk about socio-political messages in the movie. But it is not at all balanced - it oversimplifies the farmer suicides for example. There is no doubt that there is a strong anti NDA tenor to the movie. Clear references to evil corporates conniving with the government of the day, problems in the last 'ten years' including farmer distress and government health sector. Also, don't miss SRKs final speech where he keeps his (INC) palm up for about a minute before urging people to go and use their finger to vote... :)
