I found The Witch a first rate horror/psychological thriller. It goes way deeper than most films of the genre. Taking place in the time of the Salem witch trials, the movie is horrifying, adult, and holds you captive.

Others below have summarized and explained the many levels of this movie. I can only add it is one of the great movies, worthy of your time, insight and thought.

This is a perfect movie. Not horror or terror, it's God, mother earth, baby Jesus and God's constant creation, destruction and recreation done in the horrific power that comes with it.
