I have read all the previous Lee Child/Jack Reacher books, he was my favourite thriller writer....However,I think Mr Child owes his fans an apology. From start to finish this book is ill thought through, unbelievable, insulting and just plain ridiculous! Spoiler alert! The plot: Reacher saves an old guy from being mugged, is told the story about the old guys daughter suffering from cancer who has no health insurance so it seams that they have to pay about 10,000 dollars every week for scans, they are now penniless. The rest of the book is about how many people Reacher and his new buddies (A tank commander from the cold war, 2 band members one of which was a marine and a waitress) can kill to secure the proceeds for the old couple from the local gang war between the Albanians and Ukrainians. The first mass killings of the Albanians is hysterical, they all shoot themselves, completely ludicrous! I haven't totalled up the death toll of the two gangs but it must be over 50 killings and 33 million dollars later everybody lives happily ever after. And all this without any intervention of the local police department! The publisher has presumably told Child to kill more people, don't worry about the story line, don't worry about any police getting involved just pull a few heart strings with an old couple and their daughter suffering from cancer and you'll sell millions. Well maybe this time, but not the next novels. Mr Child you are burnt out!
