So overall I think this movie was hoaky and a big step down from all the other POTA movies. It did not have the same seriousness of the other POTA films. The only cool part was at the very end when the humans got the satellites working and when the Eagle Clan got more tools to evolve their knowledge.
I also agree with some of the reviews here that some aspects just don't make sense. Like I don't think it would have taken people 300 years to be able to get the satellites working.
I also don't think it makes sense that the good apes and humans would keep their lives separate. Like why wouldn't they join forces at some point over 300 years? I think that's the only reason they had to make up the thing about humans losing intelligence and speech, to give the apes and humans a reason for not having come together earlier
And the reason I think they needed to keep them separate is in order to set up a situation the original movie could fit into
The virus thing would have made sense but it's already been established in the earlier films that that's not what happened to the human race.
So they needed to find a better reason for the humans to be so far behind the apes
With that being said if they were to keep the main plot points the same in this movie, I think they should have just cut some things out. Like the whole Eagle thing. I honestly just think that was hoaky, especially when the eagles all attack the bad chimp at the end. It should have just been Noa becoming a leader and rising up the clan.
Personally I would have made all the chimps still in one clan and it was everyone that was under the guidance of a ruler that twisted Caesar's words and legacy. They could also have had people as pets and stuff like the original. But there were still people underground and stuff trying to connect with other surviving humans. And some humans connect with characters like Noa and his friends who then help the humans get reconnected after being shown how corrupt their current leader is. That would have been really cool
Anyway, I'd watch another one of these POTA movies (if not solely for the fact that the idea of the ape characters is very compelling) if they go on to make a more serious and inspiring movie like Rise of the Planet of the Apes was and go into how the apes evolve more with their knowledge/tech, and shown the apes and people coming together. Seeing what that society would look like would be really interesting
