If you are both a film lover and someone who has read the book, you will get disappointed. The acting was horrible. It felt like they were going more for the "cool" factor. The way Fremen talked was very un-Fremenlike. It had too much of that "royal intonation"
Let's talk about Chani. Her character in the book was quite knowing. Nimble and graceful. The movie seemed to focus more on Zendaya rather than on Chani. It felt like Zendaya was playing herself, no Chani was there. There were too many stills of Zendaya standing there, smiling. While I was watching the scene I was like "what for???". One scene is enough thank you. No need to remind us that we are going to see Zendaya later on in the movie.
The acting made me cringe so many times that I had to stop watching twice and force myself to continue watching. The only thing that kept me going was the breathtaking CGI and Javier Bardem's terrific acting. I couldn't even recognize it was Javier when Stilgar was introduced. That was how good his acting was—he really understood Stilgar. These two things are the only positive comments I have about this movie. Other than that, don't waste your time watching this cringefest.
