if a movie makes you cry when you don't cry at movies its done its job....And this movie does its job...too well. Go see it in theaters and let me know if you cried in front of strangers too. If you didnt cry you are a biased lefty, have no tear ducts and or lacking a soul.
Sure it has its drawbacks especially at the beginning with the hokey comrade editorial narrative, the overwhelming "george washington never told a lie" telling of his younger years and obnoxious over-acting especially by the actress playing Nancy Reagan. If you grew up in the 80s and were remotely interested in politics this movie has very little new insight into who he was and the intricacies in the key moments of history. All of that could have been better.
HOWEVER despite those drawbacks it was an amazingly accurate portrayal of documented events that the media doesn't want a new generation to see, hear or know about. This movie does not subscribe to their narrative that RR was an evil old man. I was in a time warp showcasing the highlights of his carrer while touching his shortcomings. The message of this movie is clear ... he was the right man at the right time that steered the course of world history for the better . It made me sadly realize we are seemingly way beyond having a single leader that embodiess... love for country, civility, common sense, empathy and humility. Not to mention the charisma to connect with everyone. A true hero and role model for modern times.
Overall i give this movie 3 stars because I cant ignore some major flaws but adding one star back for making me feel real emotion and another just because it drives the left nuts. Back to 5 stars !!!! :)
