The people calling this album heavy metal are wild lol. This is a great pop punk album. The instrumentation definitely has a hard rock sound, but the vocal, the melodic lines, the chord progressions, they are all textbook pop. This is pop with crunchy guitar.
Anyway, like I said, I do think it’s a great album. It executes that fusion extraordinarily well. And Demi Lovato is likely one of very few artists who could pull it off and have anybody want to listen to it.
As someone who lives squarely in both the pop and the post-hardcore worlds, this is an album that I had on repeat for a good while. I’d love to see the industry produce more marriages between these two worlds, because this album proved it can be really great.
