My wife and I were transfixed watching every episode often several in a night. Picking up a bit of Spanish in the process. This is the most epic historical series I have seen.. the battle scenes were not grand and packed with extras but they conveyed the truth of battle and war so well.. the improbable combination of the best historical fiction with the slow intimate details of a Latin American soapy was executed perfectly and worked to keep the series working on multiple levels.. As a student of history and a former lecturer in politics I found the various episodes, coups, reprisals, constitutional arguments etc fascinating.. great for starting conversations.. The actors were great too. Might watch the whole thing from scratch in a few months..
