Friday Gretchen's 'Unkindnesses' is a very unique and ultimately satisfying book of poetry, spanning a multitude of topics: Relationships, nature, food and/ or cooking, and of course, sex and/or sexuality, among other subjects; sometimes sad, sometimes trenchant, and at times uproariously funny, all delivered by a deft hand. What makes it sparkle is one never can foresee where it's it's going to go or what it will say. When you feel like you know where it will be headed, it will veer off in another direction.It consistently surprises. Read it, wait a spell and read it again and you will find that not one syllable of this fine collection could have done better or differently.
