**spoiler**
I feel like it would have been better if violet and the boy were found dead, and that’s how Emma came to the realisation that she needs to move forward and not lose any more time in her life. She continued this chase looking for hope because these kids reminded her of the positive ‘high’ times earlier in her life, while she simultaneously threw her own marriage to the side due to her past trauma- wasn’t the point for her to learn that her traumas were holding her back and causing her to become hostile. She didn’t really learn much of a lesson if she followed the kids on a reckless journey to revisit the past, but there were no consequences or lessons for anyone at the end because instead of dying too, their lives were preserved by a magic pool. The supernatural aspect ruined the metaphor I think.
