This movie was really good.
I liked the animation, and the way they designed the characters. I especially liked the way they designed the colored characters, you don’t see a lot of colored characters in claymation, and it felt really good to see black, Hispanic, and Asian characters represented in such a fantastic way.
I loved the color palette of the movie it all just pops out at you and catches your attention.
Everything about this movie is just wonderful. My only complaints is the pacing and how the main character, Kat, acts.
It doesn’t give me a lot of backstory, I honestly wouldn’t have minded watching an extra 30-40 minutes just for a little bit more exposition to show the relationship between the main character’s community and their parents.
I would also give it a little bit higher age rating because it explores darker topics and feels like some thing that a lot more adults and people between the age range of 16 through 18 could relate to instead of 13 year olds.
If I’m gonna be quite honest, Kat acts like a prick throughout the whole movie until the end, when her parents die…. AGAIN.
And the end throws me off whatever happened to the blonde haired girl it’s like she just disappeared after her parents are arrested. And all of a sudden people just want to move back in. And what about the falafel man? UGGHH.
All-around great movie I just wish there was more backstory to be explored and to be had and a better ending.
