It is best not to think of Dead Space while playing this game. Yes it has guns, but until you upgrade them the baton is your best friend. Don't rush in blindly. Look around. Look for drops to throw enemies off of, spike walls, explosives, use anything you have to your advantage. Think, plan. Panic and you will die. I enjoyed the game and the combat. But that is just me. Remember while it is made by the same people behind Dead Space it is not Dead Space.
