TLDR: predictable; Where is God? Where is the love?
Read about 3/4 of the book before skimming through the last 10 chapters or so. I'd say a pretty typical/predictable storyline (no surprises). "Even the wisest of men was a fool for love," um no. What Jed felt for Shelby was not love.
And if it is referring to his love for Rose, then how was he a fool? By having to get to know her? By going on dates? Oh by waiting to be with her until their wedding night?..
Is it referring to his love for God? Not much love there -- no real mention of a relationship between him and God. Before or after the climax of the book. Yes he sings about God in some of his music, says a prayer now and then (genie in a bottle God) and acknowledges that he doesn't read his Bible as much anymore --but did he ever?
Maybe it's his love for music? Now that I can see, as he does just about anything to chase after it...or rather the feeling it gives him.
The ending was wrapped up to quickly and too nicely. Maybe I missed something by just skimming it but I don't think so. God wasn't in the healing, or the fixing...
"Love is the power that heals"... might have been helpful to see what that "love" looks like during the "healing process" -- had there actually been one.
