kept seeing reviews that this movie was so sick and twisted but in reality it was just tasteless and poorly written. spoilers ahead.
this movie tries so hard make something out of nothing. there are so many disconnected parts that are supposed to be part of the plot but aren't really quite there. for instance, is ilya part of daniel's masterplan? if he is, it is never mentioned. chris claims to be in love with alicia at the end but this was never mentioned throughout the entire torture scene. she slept with him once and all of a sudden he is in love with her? after she's died? also the scene after alicia is SA'd by ilya and chris falls off the landmine...was alicia supposed to be stabbed then but also the stab wound looks like a dog bite? the way she passed is insanely vague and poorly structured. also somehow daniel knew beforehand that alicia cheated on him with chris but daniel didn't say a thing until chris decided to spill his guts about it? what was the point of chris admitting guilt when daniel could've just said he knew about it the moment chris was in danger? don't even get me started on how chris just zones out after killing lika. they really didn't know how to close out this film.
moreover, everything feels entirely forced, as if the director himself went through a similar situation and just wanted to make his fantasy of what he could do to his cheating fiancee as revenge, a reality. the hatred against alicia felt far too personal. as someone who knows that misogyny comes with the territory of the horror/disturbing film genre, i will say it is blatantly apparent in this film that the director just has some sort of deep seated hate for women and couldn't even make a decent film without letting us know that was the case.
