I’ve played this game on and off for an embarrassingly long time, and I wouldn’t say I’m an expert. But I do know my fair share of Wiz business. So if you’re thinking about playing Wizard 101 for the first time I would definitely recommend watching some beginner tip style youtube videos, joining a discord group, or even Reddit to have a place to be able to ask questions. But that’s if you really wanna dive in since a lot of things aren’t really explained to new players. The paywall does come early at around level 5 where you need the 10$ a month membership to play. I think if you don’t mind spending 10$ every now and then, and still find it fun it’s worth it.. There's a very whimsical charm to the visuals even if certain worlds look a little outdated. Although a little repetitive I enjoy the combat system, its turn based where everyone casts spells from your little deck. You definitely don’t need to spend a lot of money to enjoy the game. While yes you definitely are frequently pushed to buy the premium currency crowns or get this hot limited item it isn’t super necessary. There are ways to work around buying crowns, but for new players especially it can be a little grindy like you can get mounts and houses for gold it just might take a minute. Things like attaching the look of an item to another or changing your gender do cost crowns even if a small amount. Honestly the people who’ve played for years are going to continue to play no matter what. If you’re bored or just want to try it out, Wizard 101 is worth it and Kingsisle is only going to refine and add to it. Ultimately though I can’t say I’d recommend putting years of time and money into this game when there’s other options that just do it better, but I’ll probably still play anyways.
