I am very much in agreement of freedom of speech and see this programme as a method of doing so. However, I am very upset today that a lady was filmed stating she was disappointed that the footage of Sarah Harding's death was headline news. I felt strongly to highlight my own view from this today. Whether you followed Girls Aloud or whether you are not in that era of music it is important to highlight firstly, such a sad story of someone who has had a very successful career. Secondly, the very fact that she is famous will highlight to women the importance of early diagnosis. If Sarah and her mum being so brave to announce details of her story saves just one life is this not a perfect reason for it to undoubtedly be headline news. Also I hope Sarah's family did not see this mornings report as I was very upset to see it and therefore cannot imagine what they would feel. As a nurse who works within cancer screening I make it my passion every day to look at ways we can highlight early checks for prompt diagnosis. Surely this is never more important than today. Sending my best wishes and care to the family and friends of Sarah Harding and all those who are living through this every day.
