I enjoyed Looking For Alaska. I have been studying English literature and creative writing for the past five years. So, Looking for Alaska was the first book I read outside of college since the summer of 2014 where I wasn’t force to read for an academic purpose or literary analysis. It was just a book that I could sit down and read and not have to worry about pop quizzes or in-class essays or in-class responses. With that said, I liked the book. I liked that the first book I read by my choice and for pure entertainment and not some classic, literary text was a Y/A novel that was a little messy but really great at the same time. I love how John Green builds the world of the story and the main male characters. I like Lara, too. I wasn’t a fan of Alaska’s character because I found her to be annoying and making my eyes roll as I read due to her sarcastic personality and comments in her dialogue, but she was a necessary part of the novel and for young Pudge’s development. I’m glad I read this book.
