I think this movie has gotten a lot of unnecessary hate, which I find unsettling. Barbie is a movie about what it means to be a woman, but at the same time what it means to be human. It's about how society treats women, but it's not conveyed in a cheap way by saying "men are who treat women bad" in the way newer movies have been lately. It's about how being a woman comes with it's flaws, and that women should accept those flaws. Which, in my personal opinion, is an incredible lesson. The movie's message may not be impactful for a male audience, but for females, yeah. This movie hits home. My mom cried quite a bit lol.
Though, you can see in the story just how much love and care the director and writers put into this movie, as well as the comedic elements thrown in that really bundle the film up into a nice, little bow. The way it portrays female empowerment isn't by belittling men, which I appreciate. It kind of just says that being a man isn't material, and based on who you love or what you like, it's just based on you as a person. And at the end of the day, it teaches us all what it means to be human. Honestly, it was definitely worth the money. There's curse words, and there's jokes about Barbie and Ken not having genitalia, but it's honestly nothing too bad for the kids as long as they remain unaware. Plus, the jokes are funny for all ages. Overall, this movie was a 10/10 in my book. I definitely plan on buying the DVD once it comes out.
