Full disclosure : I really wanted to like this film.
So much potential, then turns into comedy and bad acting after the first 20 minutes. The dialogue in this film is not organic, and any one-liners fall completely flat.
A lot of work went into very cool set design, at the expense of deep character exploration.
The characters aren't as interesting as the puzzles, and they all have back stories that feel tacked on (and are only explored as flashbacks).
I really tried to care for them, but didn't quite get there.
There is a character revelation (concerning a boat, and jacket) in the last third of the film that just wasn't set up properly. I just sort of went, "Oh, okay.", and that was that.
The film tries to set things up cleverly, and even asks some potentially interesting questions, only to then explain them away later. There is no real payoff at the end.
Speaking of which, this film's ending is one of the most disappointing things I have ever had to watch.
The best part, of course, is that I actually paid money to see this film.
Sigh.
