I saw this movie twice in the first week that it was released. I also watched the 2012 documentary “Marley” the week before that. After seeing “One Love“ the first time, I couldn’t stop thinking about it, so I saw it a second time. I would describe the movie as a series of short, powerful vignettes of important moments in Bob Marley’s life. Some of these were quieter moments, such as when he meets his Rastafarian teacher for the first time, and then 15 years later when he seeks him out for further advice. Other moments are more explosive, for example when a gun is literally going off. The 2012 documentary goes into much more detail about Bob’s life story, so seeing it first was helpful in order to understand more of the context of the dramatic feature film. I now feel like I know so much more about this incredible genius who had an impoverished and painful childhood, and only lived until his mid-30s. In spite of that, he was a world leader. This is a very beautifully made movie and has quickly become one of my all-time favorite films!
