*Movie Review: Vettaiyan*
Plot:
Athiyan (Rajinikanth), a renowned encounter specialist, believes in encounters as a solution to crime. On the other hand, Sathyadev (Amitabh Bachchan), a human rights officer, strongly opposes encounters. What happens when they meet for a common case? Does encounter really solve crimes, and is it handled correctly? The rest of the story explores these questions, tackling online NEET coaching scams and breaking stereotypes.
*First Half:*
The movie starts slowly, followed by Rajinikanth's iconic intro. It takes 30-35 minutes to set the stage and dive into the core plot, culminating in an intense interval block.
*Second Half:*
The second half is racy and gripping, with excellent investigation episodes and minimal Rajinism. High moments abound, particularly the lift scene, which will evoke emotions. The climax fight feels unnecessary.
*Positives:*
- Rajinikanth shines as a subtle cop.
- Amitabh Bachchan delivers a strong performance.
- "Manasilaayo" song is a celebration of Rajinikanth's charisma.
- FaFa (Patrick/Battery) keeps the movie engaging.
- The bond between Athiyan and Battery is memorable.
- Special mentions: Dushara (Sharanya), Asal Kolaar (Guna), and Ritika (Roopa).
- Nataraj (Rana) is terrific, except for the climax fight.
- Anirudh's music is a major plus.
*Negatives:*
- Sharanya's character fails to create strong emotional connectivity.
- Predictable second half and average climax.
- Unnecessary fights, especially the climax.
- Underutilized roles for Rohini, Rakshan, Abirami, and Manju Warrier.
*Overall:*
Director @tjgnan successfully delivers a strong social message with India's two biggest superstars. Vettaiyan addresses important topics entertainingly, making it a decent entertainer for both general audiences and fans.
*RECOMMENDED!*
