The only one watchable here is Kristin Scott Thomas (Mrs. Danvers). I don't know but I always find Armie Hammer's acting flat. I like the cinematography, though.

One of those "horror" movies that fail to scare. Once you finish the tarot reading scene, and the first & second attacks you can more or less predict what's going to happen next. the only thing interesting is the story about the lady astrologer who bound her soul into the cards. The rest is pretty boring.

This film is like both an adaptation and an extension of the novel at the same time. Sure, there are differences from the book but I like the choices the producers made - Cut Throat Bill being a woman, the scenes and conversations between Bill & Lula (when there was no dialogue between them in the book; the "talk" between Bill & Jones at the trading post bar, down to the death of Bill and the last word she uttered - you can feel her pain, desperation, bitterness & anger, and brilliantly executed by Juliette Lewis (and that voice! OMG). Each cast member put their best foot forward for this film and the result is an astoundingly beautiful but dark and haunting piece of storytelling about love for family (the Parkers), living a life filled with anger & hatred & brutality (Bill); living in a society that treats you unfairly just because you look different (Jones) - all in a western setting. Every main character has a (background) story and I love how they were presented to make the viewer understand where the character is coming from, and why they are the way they are. And the cinematography? So stunning. I've never seen a film where I would gasp and be in awe of how beautiful and breathtaking every outside shot is - it's like staring at a postcard - hats off to their DP for doing an excellent job! This Elliot Lester - Peter Dinklage collaboration may have taken a decade to make, but it is so worth the wait.

Like in a recipe, Unfrosted has too many ingredients / seasonings that instead of tasting great, it became almost unpalatable as you watch and reach the end. There were so many sub-plots, too many characters and some scenes are just unfunny (like the living ravioli, the press conference with Kellogg's team of experts) & irreverent (the funeral of Schwinn - drenching a casket with milk & cereal? how is that funny?) . I adore Melissa McCarthy but sadly her portrayal of Donna "Stan" Stankowski failed to deliver, there's nothing funny about her, nothing memorable in her performance. One character that stood out for me is Harry Friendly, played by Peter Dinklage - he had just about 5 min screen time but his bit is the best part of the movie, IMO. Jerry Seinfeld must have been so excited putting together his project that as he kept building and building on his ideas, it became too much, and did not notice that the comic masterpiece he was trying to make has turned into a dud. What I liked is the production / 60's vibe, and the end credits (with that catchy song and montage of bloopers, song and dance bits by the cast), it's actually funnier than the film itself.

I like that the plot is different and quirky, and the three main characters - Steven, Patricia and Katrina are poles apart in their personalities and each dealing with personal & spiritual issues. I noticed though the bad camera work (so inconsistent)- there were shots with Katrina (Marisa Tomei) talking to Steven, but her head is out of frame, did the DP use a different camera for every shot? the cinematography is just awful. and there's the horrendous make-up job on Marisa - she's a gorgeous woman and i get that her job as a tugboat captain does not require her to look glamorous, but why did they have to make her look so old and in dire need of a shower? Looks like Ms. Miller forgot to check with her DP and film editor. Overall, there's so much to be desired in SCTM, the only thing that saved it is the performance of the 3 lead actors (Dinklage, Hathaway & Tomei), the rest is ...blah.
