Wife and I saw asteroid city this weekend. This movie did nothing to repair my track record for picking movies. I jealously watched a couple walk out of the theater after 45 minutes. I would have followed, but wife insisted on extending the suffering as revenge.
I would say the plot was slow, but I don't think it actually had one. There were a few somewhat funny moments, but not nearly enough humor to make it worthwhile.
I think the key to this movie is the "you can't wake up if you don't fall asleep," chant. I have no doubt that this actually had the effect of litterally waking people up who fell asleep in the theater. I am wondering if that was the whole point of the movie. Sort of like some radical art installation where the audience becomes a part of the work, by being lulled to sleep and then jarred awake by Willem Defoe, et al.
