This is a play about football and politics, the very two subjects that send me to sleep. However, on this occasion I remained wide- awake and fully engaged throughout the play; it was very funny, very sad and with political intrigue a-plenty. The 4 actors played their parts with great credulity and skill. The stage set is simple but highly effective and typical of both the era and the area.
I really loved this play because it demonstrated so well the highly charged feelings of tightly knit north eastern communities following the miners strike/thatcherite eras.
The recent history felt accurate, relatable and interesting. There were also twists and turns which kept the audience engaged.
I dislike football and am weary of politics, but I cannot recommend this excellent play highly enough.
