In the middle of watching it now, and it is HILARIOUS! Robert DeNiro can play ANY role and excel, regardless of what it is. Kind of sad to see Robin Williams, but Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon, Katherine Heigl, the entire cast ~ wonderful! (Rotten Tomatoes, when you get it wrong, you REALLY get it wrong.)

I have watched this movie four or five times, and will be watching it again in the future. I love the eccentricity, the music, the performances, everything about it is pure class and talent. I've had people tell me that they didn't understand what it was about. Even without the background knowledge, it is a film to be treasured.

Love this movie! Bette Davis at her finest. And best of all? NO CELL PHONES (NO PHONES AT ALL!)

I first saw "Avalon" in 1990, with my mother. We were both very affected by it, even though we are of Italian heritage. My mother came from a large family ~ 6 brothers and 4 sisters ~ so we knew how poignant it is to start as a large, close family and gradually break apart, forming smaller groups until that original family is all but gone. I am so glad I found "Avalon" again...it is extremely touching, and a beautiful example of the early, and innocent, days of American immigrants.

Don't waste your money. Awful!
