These letters are a fascinating account of Lady Mary's trip by coach from England to Constantinople where her husband Edward was appointed ambassador to Turkey. She is an intelligent, courageous woman; the word indomitable comes to mind. Her descriptions of people, cultures, cities and landscapes en route to Turkey and of her experiences during her two years there are lively and very entertaining.
