I first saw this movie when I was 19 and was riveted instantly when Coleman and Garson first cross paths. But I'd probably have been nearly as riveted if "Smithy" had been played by Wally Cox. Garson is one of a kind. If she'd stayed in film and had a full career she'd have buried Garbo, Hepburn, Bette Davis, the whole crew from the late '30s through the mid '50s. Imagine her with Mitchum or Bogart. She'd even have outdone Stanwyck in Double Indemnity. She was THAT good.
