First the good; GaGa was fantastic. Epic, powerful. Adam Driver got better after a weak start. Cinematography was beautiful, costumes fantastic, at the end of the day… Entertaining. Now for the bad… much respect for Al Pacino and Jared Leto but those were some messy, over the top, really strange performances. Had those characters been fleshed out better, the movie would’ve taken off. It’s like Ridley Scott was doing a few different movies at once… And for me that was more because of the performances and the style of the acting that really differed from one actor to the other. It was disconcerting. Jeremy Irons was fantastic but just didn’t seem to even care to try for an accent. Would’ve given it 3 stars out of 5 but for Lady Gaga. She’s really grown into such a great actress. You can’t take your eyes off of her when she’s on screen. So no matter how uneven and odd some of this movie was, Gaga made it a must watch.

This is art to me. Creative, timely, self deferential, odd, fascinating, funny... and infuriating at times... because Bo is a big star who made his name on the internet. A bit hard to hear him diss the thing that made him but his clarity about it is so spot on that it's hard to stay angry, At the end of the day, I found this show riveting... and at times I was shocked by his creativity and urgency to find something inside himself, while inside this last year and a half. Plus the songs are just plain hysterical and like surreal musical theatre. Visually so interesting. Feels fresh and new and heavy at the same time. CREATIVITY IS ON DISPLAY....and I am here for it.
