Decent action movie, awful James Bond movie. Halfway through (yes, before that ridiculous and awful ending) I muttered aloud that this did not feel like a James Bond film. It felt like a regular Hollywood action flick trying to impersonate a Bond one by occasionally incorporating a few of the established elements.
Then came that ridiculous and awful ending in addition to a convoluted plot in which the villain does almost nothing and storylines are a jumbled mess. How is it that Safin remains practically the exact same age from the flashback to present day despite the huge time jump? And where the heck did he go and what did he do during that entire time in between, especially given his stated motive?
And did I mention that ridiculous and awful ending? It goes against everything James Bond is, stands for, and has been since his first appearance on the big screen in 1962. I felt nothing but disgust, irritation, and confusion during those final minutes. It was cheap shock factor.
I have always been more a reader than reviewer and have never before dropped an online review on a movie, but this was so terrible that I felt compelled.
