I've been looking forward to watching this film since the first time that I saw the trailer. Although I was sceptical as even the trailer didn't seem to give any sense of the potential story. Just stunning visuals, which did at least follow through to the film.
The art style is incredibly beautiful, but that's where the positives end.
The story has zero substance, you're forever sat awaiting something to actually happen. Never have I got up and left a cinema (and I still didn't in hope that something would occur), but I really really wanted to!
I'm convinced at this point that the whole film is just created to laugh at the audience. To prove that an all star cast will bring in the punters despite a lack of story to keep them there. I'm sure that the theatre cast being told to go to sleep is just a dig at how the audience must be so bored at that point that they're going to fall asleep. "You can't wake up if you don't fall asleep". Indeed you can't and I'm sure that most people will experience waking up just as this is chanted towards the end of the film.
There's a few decent scenes among the dross, but nothing worth parting with your cash to go and see. As far as I can tell, it's a film for the same people that think that an unmade bed is art. Those who try to find meaning in something that doesn't have any.
It's beautiful to look at, but I'd rather watch paint dry than sit through another 2 hours of Asteroid City.
