I'm not going to lie, I was REALLY looking forward to this. The "coming soon" and "new for 2024" trailers that Sky were rolling out made it look like a rip-roaringly good romp of a show. And, to be fair, the first episode delivered just that. I'm 4 episodes in and, there have been some occasionally great moments. Sadly, the rest has been boring nonsense. Even worse, because I was bored, I started picking holes in it...
- At what point did we find out that the third son's name was Kit? When do we find out what the daughter's name is?
- Didn't the pox leave those that survived it scarred for life?
- Why do the scenes between Mary and Lady Hatton seem like viciously delicious moments from a different show (I'm thinking 'Killing Eve')?
- How bad is the banner on the streaming site that looks like my first attempts at Photoshop?!
- When did we start adding "No?" at the end of a rhetorical question?
- Did the writer of the novel give the eldest son with mental health issues violent tendencies or is this an outdated addition for a 2024 TV spectacular?
- Is it considered high drama when a confidante says "but her screams were not that of pain" only for Julianne Moore to give an appalled expression that was straight out of Kenneth Williams' look-book!?
I don't know , maybe I've seen one too many of these kinds of show that I've just become bored by them...
