This is Irving's tour de force, a true masterpiece. His undaunted protagonist, the diminutive, eccentric, yet prophetically imaginative Owen Meaney, becomes indelibly endearing to the reader as one laughs (and cries) along his journey to an ultimate heroic status adumbrated throughout his brief but eventful, and thoroughly entertaining life. A Prayer for Owen Meaney is a must read and remains in my personal favorite top 5 novels.
