This book broke my heart.....again. The first time was losing my own Lilly. So much of what the author experienced happened to me too. The way he expressed what he was feeling helped me to deal with my own feelings in a different way. But I was sobbing at the end. If you've ever lost your soul mate, you will understand.

Beautifully written. It's about much more than Alfie and Carl. Choosing to relate to the natural world is the heart of this book. It's not a "skimmer."

Best book I've ever read about the human-animal bond. Carr is an artist who paints pictures with words. His prose is magnificent. Anyone who has ever truly loved an animal will relate to and love this book. Don't miss it!!
