I feel like I speak for a lot of ppl when I say we had high expectations for this movie with it's promotion. I saw this movie two days after it came out w/ my mom, and we both agree it didn't quite hit the mark for us. I found the acting at times to be a bit questionable (nic was great), some things were left unexplained and I doubt we're getting a sequel. I also, with a lot of others, found the 'devil made me do it' motive stale. I would have preferred a killer that did what he did for the sake of being deprived and evil, although some people think differently. a BIG positive i'll give this movie was it's cinematography. it's no exaggeration that I loved every single shot in this film. it always has you searching for something in the background that may or may not be there. not to mention it just looked aesthetically pleasing. and finally, the scariest part in this movie for me (excluding the headbanging scene, it was just gorey), was the opening. super atmospheric, and had me on the edge of my seat. overall, Nicholas cage is a great actor, he was casted perfectly for long legs. the story was okay, the mystery aspect was a nice touch, but it didn't live up to the hype it accumulated with it's promotions. cuckoo comes out this month so i'm excited to see what else neon has to offer!
