So much potential but this circular film concludes with none of the main characters having any meaningful turn or changing their dysfunctional behaviors with no resolution of any of the major plot conflicts. The message seems to be that high-powered women can have their cake and eat it too, as long as everyone around them is subservient. It paints a picture that is no different than the historical male counterpart of a workaholic micromanaging absent father company executive. Worst of all is that Robert de Niro's character enables this destructive behavior, even leading a break-in rather than forcing the executive to confront a misstep and repair a broken relationship. Overworked and underappreciated employees magically go from stressed out to joyful team members despite no change in behavior from their boss. An affair is "resolved" by one party saying they don't need the unhealthy dynamic to change, they will just "try harder". If art mirrors life, this film is just a sad depiction of everything that is wrong with the modern fantasy of having it all without the need to grow or sacrifice, as long as everyone around you is willing to sacrifice everything.
