Safe Time

This is one of the worst shows I have watched in my life. First of all, the humour is unbearable. I'm personally okay with dark humour, but the subject matter is not important here. My problem is that all of the jokes are essentially of the genre "random equals funny", meaning that the joke is just that what the character is saying or doing makes no sense. It essentially seems like a paradoy of itself. Secondly, no real character development happens. If anything, they all just get more unbearable as the show progresses. I got to around halfway in season 5 because for some reason I was expecting some payoff in the form of good character changes. For example, the old man, Pierce, is constantly rude to the rest of the main characters, but they just keep him around without expecting any real change. There are episodes where he gets left out, but instead of Pierce learning to change his views and the way he acts, the episode is instead centered on the others of the main cast learning to not exclude him no matter how disrespectful he acts, which is just bizarre. The show also regularly romanticizes an 18 year old girl dating/having romantic tension with a 35 year old man, which just doesn't sit right with me because it isn't even played off as a joke. The concept of a laughably bad college is in itself intriguing, but I just feel that the potential was wasted on this show. If you find random = funny humour funny and don't mind a lack of character development, then this show may be for you. Otherwise, don't bother wasting your time on this garbage.
