When your country is surrounded by regimes that state their goal is to destroy Israel and every Jew in the Middle East it doesn’t seem extreme to defend your country in any and every way you can. The last time a group of people tried to exterminate every Jew on earth the rest of the world sat around wringing their hands trying to decide if there were really crematoriums in Poland. No wonder Israel responds so strongly.
