Gertrude Bell is possibly one of the greatest female historic figures you've never heard of. She deserves a great cinematic epic worthy of her contribution to history. This film is NOT it. This does such a disservice to her story. It's an insult to her memory. It takes a phenomenal woman and reduces her to a trite love story. Beyond that, the writing is absolutely awful and the characters are flat. Kidman plays her as some whispy, panting, love sick puppy rather than brilliant, powerhouse she was. She and Franco have zero chemistry, and Franco's attempt at a British accent is abysmal and utterly distracting, completely laughable. This movie is a train wreck from start to finish and should never have been made because were stuck with this as being the only film dedicated to Bell's story which is ultimately not really told because it's side tracked by some dumb Hollywood cliche of a romance movie.
