Kind of Blue was not hatched out of the blue; rather is was the evolutionary child of a series of albums that developed the basic theme behind the glorious outbreak of the perfect combination of Davis' slow, breathy horn, Coltrane and Adderley's individually brooding sax voices, and Evans' modal piano genius. Kind of Blue was a puzzle that gelled after Somethin' Else put together all but the last magic piece that pulled it all together in that steamy summer cauldron of NYC's August heatwave/brainwave that made jazz history.
