This is probably the best, most original series I have seen--standing right up there with Peaky Blinders and The Sopranos. The undercurrent of tragedy and tension is exemplified in the haunting music that is a separate character itself, masterfully swelling and receding exactly where it needs to. Emma is the most original female character I've ever, ever seen in a TV series or movie. It took me a few days after finishing season 1 to figure out why she stayed with me so long, and here it is. She doesn't use sex. She is a unique person, not made up (no eye liner or lip gloss, thank the gods), dressed in gaucho pants and linen blouses, no cleavage, no high heels, just a human being--ruthless and smart. That clear-eyed stare without any flirty, seductive intentions was so refreshing I wanted to cheer. Finally a female character I could admire. Wait? I admire a ruthless drug dealer? Well, there you have it. Her relationship with her brother was one of a kind. The honesty between them, no suppressed guilt or envy, no plotting to best one another, just a genuine, frank, caring relationship to admire. That word again. The scenery was gorgeous, the technique of backing up to see the event from a different character's perspective, the depth of the characters, all genius. The creators of this series are to be commended for a truly original work of art.Bravo.
