I've watched 3 David Mamet plays turn into movies. Glengarry, House of Games, and The Spanish Prisoner. They're all excellent ! All I need to hear is the first 3 minutes of dialogue and can recognize a "Mamet" play.
His writing is so distinctive. The actors must feel the same way. When was the last time you saw "big name actors" (Pacino, Arkin Harris, Spacey, Lemon) in one movie ?? Christ, even Jonathon Pryce was convincing as a lonely " house- whipped" husband !
Personal favorite is The Spanish Prisoner with Steve Martin, Ed O'Neill, and Campbell Scott !
Only other movie worth watching for the acting is Edward Albee's " Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolff ".
