The Call is entertaining if you enjoy suspense. The plot and logic of the film, however, are inexcusable to the point it is maddening to the viewers. During probably the first half of the film, it was believable. As it progresses, however, we encounter more and more scenarios where the characters fail to use even common sense. By far the most unrealistic and laughable portion is when Jordan decides to enter the kidnapper's property. She fails to bring a weapon, and for some inexplicable reason continues into an obviously dangerous bunker by herself instead of calling for backup where she had service on her phone.
Additionally, I felt the entire motive behind the kidnapper was completely ridiculous. He’s kidnapping this girl to scalp her hair because it looks like his dead sister’s hair. He needs to keep her alive for the whole movie because the “hair needs a healthy blood flow” (actual quote). Read that again and try to make it make sense. LOL
Credit where credit is due, however, which is the reason why this didn’t get 1 star from me. I felt the acting was on point for this movie. Michael Eklund does a phenomenal job playing the psycho kidnapper, despite his flawed motives. Performances by Halle Berry (Jordan) and Abigail Breslin (Casey) were on point as well.
