This movie was epic, the animations were refreshing and completely different from anything I've seen in Dragon Ball before, and so were the fight sequences. And the plot was amazing and deep. It showed the societal pressures being a Saiyan has on you, and how Broly, was told to do things not because of what he wanted, but because it was expected of him by his father, and he was told to avenge him.
Some positives:
- Broly's backstory was of course revamped in a very positive way; he was no longer the blood thirsty evil, and psychotic Saiyan by nature. He was instead a somewhat benevolent, peaceful and naive character similar to Goku. And the explanation for why Broly goes berserk, is that his transformation is essentially Ozaru mode "The great ape," but he does it without physically transforming, making him go on a slight rampage, to the point of where he starts attacking Frieza.
- The animation and the fight sequences were very cool, and so were the blasts and moves used as well. And Goku's new God bind technique looked amazing.
Some Negatives:
- The movie seems to be dominated by fight scenes, and missing some of the things that makes movies feel wholesome. But Dragon Ball has always been known for being simple, and it's some of the reasons why I love it too.
- They missed out on the opportunity of adding Ultra Instinct or many of the forms like Vegeta's new form, that gained a lot of popularity. The addition would've made the movie way more interesting.
- They should've made Gogeta a flop "Like fusions always are" and have Goku defeat Broly in a more traditional way. Like Ultra Instinct, but something more creative.
