This is a sensitively written account of terrible family trauma. Rob Parkes manages to write without a trace of self pity of his harrowing ordeal. He describes the impact on his family in a way that allows the reader almost to “live” the experience with him, and movingly tells of how his devotion to his daughter kept him sane.
It is a bleak story at times, but Rob tells it with compassion and even humour where needed.
The vulnerability of the single parent becomes very evident as the story unfolds.
This is a great read, and should be compulsory for anyone involved with providing family support in any capacity.
