Lifeless Planet is a 'Game' that exists.
It was Free in the Epic Games Store as a part of there Thursday Free Game of the Week.
If it had not been Free, I would have brrrRRapped right past it.
When I started playing I reallydidn't have any preconceived notions about anything but the title Lifeless Planet.
I loaded in,and there was a few cits and some scenes. I got a retro vibe from it and ran with that.
The more I played however, the more feeling I got this wasn't a retro inspired title but an actual 20 or 25 year old game running on a 20 or 25 year old engine.
Ok, that's fine I'm still running with it.
There is a story told through text log entries and audio log entries.
It is kinda interesting, it did keep me going.
But, that's it. I will not spoil it as it's a decent enough story.
There are some very basic puzzles and some dog water platforming. But Asus from that not much else.
The controls can be a bit frustrating if you use Keyboard and Mouse so I'd suggest connecting a controller for best results.
There are a few uhm...special effects I guess, I mean it looks like they started trying and wound up starting and crying.
I was stunned to find out this game was developed and released in 2014...shocked, actually.
I've seen one-man-shows do the most insane stuff with freeware that would clap Lifeless Planet's tamed, bland visuals' dusty cheeks in the 2 decades before it and since.
Like, I've seen some stuff produced by kids that would roflstomp LP in an aspect you'd wanna put it up against.
The voice acting is done well enough I listened to the untranslated audio logs and read the translated to English text.
I read faster than the audio log but I gave it the full listen because it was that good.
There is a Soundtrack that start and stops randomly...it's ok I guess.
There are some environmentals that are ok but all in all it was just, well...there.
Like, either this was a half-assed, ham handed attempt gone wrong or, where this guy's from this is next level, hardware melting, mind bending shit.
Maybe, this is award worthy where the author is from.
It was all done in less than a Gig of download.
I wish him no will but also offer no quarter, I uninstalled it as soon as I got credits rolling.
I got it for free.
It cost me nothing but time.
If I paid for it, I wouldn't ask for a refund.
It didnt hurt me or give me thumb warts.
After a total of less than 5 hours it was over and all I can say is...
Lifeless Planet is a Game that Exists.
