Spoiler Alert!
He tries the Tarantino thing of mixing up plot sequencing. But he's not Tarantino. All he achieves is confusion, not helped by fast cutaways and mere glimpses of what's going on.
The action scenes attempt humour by exaggeration, but it sinks to OTT farce too easily as the director tries to be cool. The eyeball thing in the car chase is an example of the humour being too contrived and just too adolescent
I wanted to enjoy this, it's a different sort of film. The CGI was just brilliant, and the action scenes well choreographed but it really needs tuning.up with more attention to the broken narrative

A moving, thought-provoking film on war that will haunt your thoughts for days after seeing it . The level of detail in respect of the uniforms, trench life, weaponry is first class. The randomness of life and death comes across throughout. A great cast delivering immersive performances. This is a great war movie, destined to become a seminal classic

Could have, should have, been done on 30 mins.
It's all Samurai fight scenes, many of the moves repetitive, and almost totally bloodless, sanitised melees. Tarantino it definitely isn't.
Plot background/rationale is non-existent
