Materialists is an adherent to the adage 'old love is true love and true love is better than any kind of new love, even if the old love is broke and hopeless'.
Personally, the film reminded of an old love, a woman named Sreya, we had spontaneous dates, tears during sex, and the occasional bickering we all face in relationships. We parted ways, because her parents did not approve, and honestly, I struggle to this day to recreate the magic and chemistry and love I had with her when I meet new women. It's as though she had drained all the love I had in me. I ultimately decided to remain celibate for the remainder of my life, as I cannot bear pretending to love.
